Helias Catholic High School is once again having their annual spring musical. This year’s play will be “The Wizard of Oz” preformed on March 10-12, at the Miller Performing Arts Center. As always, high school students, as well as 3rd-8th grade students, are needed to make the play the best it can be. Both boys and girls are sought for the numerous roles. Auditions for all roles will be December 4 at Helias Catholic High School in the music room of the fine arts wing. Grade school students will try out first, beginning at noon and ending no later than 1:30 p.m. Auditions for the high school students will follow that of the grade school students.
All young students auditioning must be prepared to sing a short excerpt from “Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead”. Also keep in mind appropriate audition apparel, as short movement exercises are to be expected. Along with singing ability, stage presence, and voice projection with clarity will be the main audition criteria.
A mandatory parent and cast member meeting will be at 1:00 p.m. on December 11, for those who are cast. Other rehearsals will start in January at Helias. Sunday afternoon commitments are required, as well as evening commitments the week before the musical. Those characters required to fly must schedule in time for aerial training and rehearsing as well.
The Helias musical is an opportunity for students to show their talent and embrace their interests. High school students can make new friends and explore new interests. Elementary students have the chance to better integrate themselves into their future high school atmosphere and get their name out there for future opportunities.
