On Monday, September 12, 2016, the Helias Catholic Lady Crusader Golf Team will be at various locations for the Helias Foundation Golf Tournament, putting for money. In the past, they have raised up to 1,500 dollars for their team. The proceeds this year will be used to purchase new golf uniform shirts.
“It is generous of the Helias Foundation to allow us to raise money for our program,” said Melissa Lorts, team mom of the Lady Crusader Golf Team. “In the previous two years, we were able to help fund the varsity travel to the state tournament.”
This year, like last year, the golf girls will be raising money by putting for the tournament golfers. When a tournament group makes it to the green, the Lady Crusader golfers will be there to greet them and offer to putt their ball on the hole. If the Lady Crusader Golfer makes the putt, the putt isn’t added to their score. If they don’t make it in, the golfer putts from the new location and doesn’t add the stroke from the Lady Crusader Golfer. One putt is ten dollars and two putts are fifteen dollars.
“The Foundation Golf Tournament is an annual event that promotes fellowship between participants, sponsors and volunteers,” said Trae Lorts, a Board member of the Foundation and participant in the tournament. “From personal experience, I know the golfers appreciate all the volunteers and enjoy interacting with the student golfers on their fundraising holes. It is amazing how good those young Crusader golfers really are. In addition, the tournament is a significant fundraiser for the Foundation that helps the Foundation continue to increase its support of the Helias Catholic High School mission.”
The Lady Crusader Golfers can be found at the Jefferson City Country Club, Meadow Lake Acres County Club, and Osage National Golf course this year. Only the junior varsity players will be putting since the varsity team will participate in the Smith-Cotton Invitational at the Sedalia Country Club that day.
