At Adkins Stadium on Saturday night, August 23, the dance team, Helias Dance Explosion (HDX), performed for the first time during the pre-game and halftime show of the football game.
During the pre-game show, HDX did a uniform dance to the school song with the cheerleaders while the school band played. They wore flashy, short, gold, sparkly dresses that glimmered with the light shining on them.
“We performed really well,” said sophomore HDX member, Cameron Ponder, adding, “[We were] Flawless as always, but it was really hot, like my face felt like it was melting off, but it didn’t matter cause we did awesome anyway.”
Later that night, HDX performed again during the halftime show. First they performed a modern kick routine to a mix of the songs “Let Me Think About It” by Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand, “I Like That” by Static Revenger and Richard Vission featuring Luciana, and “Heads Will Roll” by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs that was choreographed by team captain’s Maddie Lammers and Madison Ponder and HDX’s coach Kerri Jones. They performed the same routine earlier in July at their dance camp at the University of Central Missouri that they’ve been practicing since the end of June.
“It’s modern, sassy, fun, energetic,” said team captain Maddie Lammers, adding, “that’ll hopefully get the crowd really going for the second half of the game.”
“We really like to support the other sports and get the students really going, dance team member, Addison Linhardt said. “We all love to perform as a team and represent Helias’ student spirit—we’re all like one big family.”
